In the world of pro golf, three famous athletes stand out and have a passion for cigar smoking. Here is some information about these three and why they are the most famous cigar smokers around.

Miguel Angel Jimenez

Miguel Angel Jimenez was born on January 5th 1964 and is a professional golfer who has won 21 events on the European tour. He has also been a member of several winning Ryder Cup teams. He began his career in 1988 and improved his game during the next few seasons. In 1992 he won his first event at the Piaget Belgian Open.

Winning Statistics

Since 1989 he has finished in the top one hundred on the European Tour Order of Merit and in 1994 Miguel finished fifth. During that year, he shot an albatross at Valderrama’s 17th hole meaning that he took only two shots on a par five hole. In 1998 and 1999 he finished fourth on the European Tour Order of Merit. In 2004 he was quoted as saying, “There is no secret. Good food, good wine, good cigars and some exercise!” when asked what the secret to his long career was.

Chris Croom

Chris Croom is another golf star who enjoys a good cigar while out shooting a round of golf. He was seen in 2012 smoking a cigar with Cole Harmonson during a professional golfing event. Cigar smoking has been a part of the culture, but more recently, this tradition has begun to change. They were popular in the 90’s, while more recently, as a stigma grows on all types of smoking, they are seen less and less.

Jack Nicklaus

Finally, the extremely popular Jack Nicklaus is a cigar smoker. The Golden Bear is now retired but is thought of by many as the greatest golfer, winning 18 major championships, 19 second place finishes, and 9 third place finishes over a 25-year career. He is third in victories all time behind Tiger Woods and Sam Snead.

Career Highlights

To begin his career, he won the U.S. Amateur in 59 and 61 and finished second place in the 60 U.S. Open behind Arnold Palmer. Then, in 62 he beat Arnold Palmer to win the U.S. Open. In 1965 and 1966 he won the Masters Tournament, becoming the first golfer to win two years in a row.

Life Outside of Golf

Nicklaus is a member of a group called the American Society of Golf Course Architects and has worked on designing golf courses. He has also taken part in various charity work and has written books focusing on golf instruction and his life. His book Golf My Way is considered a top instructional golf book available.

These three golfers are some of the most famous athletes today. They all smoke cigars out on the golf course while shooting a round even though the popularity of the habit has decreased over the years. This tradition is a part of their golfing lifestyles.
