Rocky Patel Edge Missile

by Elliot Boudin on June 4, 2011

The Rocky Patel Edge Missile is a 5×48 cigar available in either a maduro or corojo wrapper. Rocky Patel is a celebrated boutique manufacturer who came from modest beginnings. Despite having to compete with huge cigar corporations, he has carved out a place for himself alongside all the other giants. His cigars are known both for their high production quality and also their unique flavors and aromas.

This cigar was originally unbanded, but now includes a band around the foot which reads, “Professional Smokers Only. Smoke While Sitting Down.” The Missile size is the smallest of the Edge line, but you can also get the Edge cigar in Toro and Torpedo sizes.

The maduro version of the cigar is dark and oily on the surface, featuring a medium-sized vein. Even though the cigar has a very hard surface, the draw is excellent. The wrapper lends some sweetness to the smoke, which starts out a little unevenly, but then evens up nicely and results in firm ash. This cigar features earthy tones with notes of cocoa. The nicotine is medium strength.

The corojo version is a lighter color, and oily with several veins. This one also has an earthy tone, but features some notes of honey, spice and cream. Once more, the draw is nice, the burn is even, and the ash is nicely packed. Like the maduro, this cigar is medium strength, not as strong as the label implies.

You can purchase the Rocky Patel Edge Missile for under $6.00. Be aware that this smoke will probably not leave you “weak in the knees” as the website promises or the band around the foot implies, but it is a flavorful medium-length smoke. Both the maduro and corojo versions represent archetypal flavor profiles which are sure to please enthusiasts of each.
