A Brief History of Garcia y Vega Cigars

Garcia y Vega Cigars

Eduardo Garcia was one of the founders of Garcia y Vega. Born in Spain, he and his brothers moved to Cuba in the late 19th century to work as tobacco growers. They then established a successful cigar factory in their adopted homeland. Garcia y Vega became famous for its Cuban-grown tobacco and convenient packaging. Each cigar came in a small, woven straw basket containing several cigars. The brand's popularity faded after Castro's revolution, but it has recently seen a resurgence in popularity among cigar lovers. Eduardo Garcia died in 1943, but his name lives on in the form of the famous brand he helped create. In addition to their renowned cigars, this company has become famous for its machine-rolled cigars.

How It All Started

Garcia y Vega was established in 1879 when Eduardo Garcia and Eugenio Vega joined forces with Ramon Garcia to find a factory in their home city of Valencia. In 1880, this company began distributing its cigars. At that time, the company was known by its founders, Eduardo Garcia y Cia and Ramon Garcia y Cia. It was not until 1887 that the company began using the Garcia y Vega brand name. The factory that produced these cigars was destroyed by fire in the early 1900s. After this, the company declined; another cigar manufacturer eventually bought it out. Despite this, the Garcia y Vega name lived on and is still in use by many cigar brands today. Today, Garcia y Vega cigars are produced in Honduras using tobacco grown in Ecuador, and their stogies are sold throughout the world.
