Hollywood and cigar smoking have gone together for decades, with the image of a big-time executive or famous actor smoking a quality cigar. To them, a large cigar is a sign that they’ve made it to a high level within the entertainment industry. In terms of Hollywood actors, there’s a long list but we’ve narrowed it down to these celebrities.
Celebrity #4: Jack Nicholson
Jack is perhaps the most famous actor of the second half of the 20th century. He has been an on/off cigar smoker since the 1970s when he filmed The Last Detail which found himself smoking Cuban cigars for his role. He became a regular cigar smoker in the 1990s when he switched to cigars from cigarettes during rounds of golf and found himself more relaxed when smoking his favorite Montecristo cigars.
Celebrity #3 George Burns and Grouch Marx (Tie)
Some Hollywood stars will always be associated with their props, which can be said about both George Burns and Groucho Marx. These comedians were both cigar lovers and used their cigars as a comedic prop that became a part of their persona both on and off stage. Burns smoked between 10 and 15 cigars a day and favored the El Producto cigar that he used in The Sunshine Boys that re-launched his career in the 1970s. As for Marx, he constantly carried a cigar around, as it too became as much of an iconic prop as his painted on mustache.
Celebrity #2: Sons of Anarchy actor Ron Perlman
Perlman is perhaps the most famous cigar aficionado of the current group of Hollywood stars and claims his habit started in the mid-1970s. As a struggling actor, Perlman ate the best food, drank the finest scotch, and smoked the best Cuban cigars available during a hedonistic period. He has maintained his cigar smoking habit ever since and remains an aficionado who was once considering creating his own cigar line before his acting career took off.
Celebrity #1: The man who played Rocky, to being part of The Expendables Sylvester Stallone
Although he’s not as open with his cigar smoking as many in Hollywood, Sylvester Stallone is one of the stars of Hollywood who enjoys cigars in a private and loving manner. Since filming FIST in 1977, Stallone has been a cigar lover and chooses only the finest cigars from around the world to enjoy in private as he feels cigar smoking is a private and personal act. What a guy.
