If you’re gonna spend a day golfing, you want to make the most of this relaxing hobby.  So, why shouldn’t you be able to indulge in a pleasurable smoke while you’re on the green?

The good news is that there’s really no law stating that you can’t light up a cigar while you’re golfing.  In fact, golfing and cigar-smoking seem to go hand-in-hand.  However, there are still some things to keep in mind if you want to get the most satisfaction out of your cigar experience while you’re on the course.

Tip #1: The Larger the Cigar, the Better

So, you spent all morning carefully selecting the perfect cigar to take your day of golfing to the next level.  Once you’re on the course, you light it, smoke it, and, before you know it, finish it long before the game is over.  Now what?

Golf games are notorious for taking a long time to complete, so make sure that you pack a cigar that can last throughout the duration of your time on the course.  Otherwise, you’ll feel like you didn’t get to enjoy your hobby to the fullest.

Tip #2: Know What the Wind Situation Will Be Like

If it’s going to be a particularly windy day, take note of the direction of the wind.  Which way the wind blows can determine how much you’re able to enjoy your smoke.  If you smoke in the wrong direction, the cigar’s ash can continuously fly into your face, or, even worse, the face of someone playing nearby.  And, the direction of the wind dictates which way to face when you’re lighting your cigar.

In fact, an extremely windy day can actually whip the end off of your cigar, leaving you with a piece of it missing while causing you to have to relight it over and over again.  So, you might want to check the weather forecast before your day of golfing.

Tip #3: Bring the Right Accessories

Smoking a cigar on the golf course isn’t like smoking a cigar on your deck.  When you’re at home, you don’t have to worry about where the ashes go.  And, you can always light the cigar indoors if the wind is particularly strong.

However, on the golf course, you need to have some accessories on hand.  Most notably, you need to have the right type of lighter in case it’s windy.  A torch lighter is ideal.

Also, invest in a portable ashtray.  After all, you don’t want to be that guy who gets his cigar ashes all over the beautiful green.
